Locanda dell'Orso | Victorian Hotel | Downtown Vancouver

Downtown—(May 13, 2024) A new authentic, family-style Italian restaurant, Locanda dell'Orso (Italian for "Inn of the Bear"), just opened for dinner service. It occupies Autostrada's old iconic downtown location (originally Cinara) underneath the historic Victorian Hotel on West Pender.

Moka espresso martini (spiced rum, Kahlua, Madagascar vanilla syrup, and Colombian arabica coffee)
While the 1,500-square-foot inside decor looks familiar with some of the same classical elements, including exposed brick at the back of the restaurant, much of it has been renovated, refurbished, or reimagined for a more contemporary aesthetic to its interior design, including marble, wood, walnut, and eco-leather inside.

crostini trio (njuda with braised fennel + whipped ricotta with agrodolce chicories + white anchovies with dragoncello)
Locanda's upscale Italian menu features dishes traditionally found in Northern and Coastal Italy from Head Chef Marquella Uhrig in tandem with a cocktail list curated by Bar Manager Riccardo Farina.

canestri (with caponata, Calabrian chili, and ricotta salata)
There's a clear focus on culinary precision to its small dishes using local ingredients and imported regional flavours.

agnolotti (with chicken, beef, rosemary, red wine, and jus) + Milano sour (bourbon, lemon, egg white, and Lambrusco)
Inspired by the legend of the "Innkeeper and the Bear," where a bear escaped the Colosseum and found refuge in the courtyard of an inn being welcomed with food and shelter, Locanda dell’Orso's focus on the warm ambiance of the Italian home builds on ideals of dining together. Buon appetito!
