WANDER | Meet Me in Gastown x Café Kitsuné x Water Street

Gastown—(August 31, 2023) Last week, several blocks of the historic Water Street were cordoned off to traffic and taken over by pedestrians for the second annual Meet Me in Gastown street festival in celebration of local dining, shopping, and live music.

Organized by private real estate developers Low Tide Properties (co-founded by always outspoken and often controversial Lululemon founder Chip Wilson), the extra-wide room for wandering around made way for various games, art activations, and lounging areas to encourage visitors to stay a while in the neighbourhood.

I took the opportunity to finally pay a visit to the latest chic Parisian-style Maison/Café Kitsuné outpost of the high-concept international French-Japanese coffee shop and retail brand (one of fifteen around the world) for its famous aesthetic vibes by way of Tokyo.



Many of the various shops, restaurants, and businesses setup their own special promotions, activities, and activations both in-store as well as on the street including an oyster shucking competition to make the overall experience all the more inviting.



There was live music heard all over the place (quite literally), with lively sounds and instrumentals taking place on the streets of Gastown, in addition to an outdoor sound system and speakers equipped outdoors to let guests enjoy the music on (and off) stage.

Once again, the night was capped off with a grand finale musical performance from the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. It was an altogether casually pleasant way to gather amongst one another to enjoy the last gasps of summer by sharing a few blocks of space together.
