WEEKENDER | Street Party x Vancouver Mural Festival x Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant—(August 10 to 14, 2023) I spent the weekend wandering around the Mount Pleasant Street Party as part of the annual ten-day Vancouver Mural Festival (since 2016) on and around the grounds of the City Centre Artist Lodge—the remnants of the old City Centre Motel, since converted into seventy-nine units of low-cost studio spaces for local artists.

Oasis Beer Garden

This year, organizers expanded the signature event (after a three-year pandemic hiatus) to four days of festivities, attracting an estimated 150,000 attendees to the nexus of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood in celebration of public art.

Ricecake Summer Market

VMF's open-air galleries of colourful murals have transformed our once-ordinary cityscape by brightening the sides of various buildings across the city.

City Centre Open Studios

Since its inception, the organization's dedication to developing meaningful cultural experiences by connecting art and people in public spaces has created more than four hundred murals over the past seven years.
