Waterfront—(October 26, 2021) On the heels of the crazy popular Imagine Van Gogh tour, Tandem Expositions and Encore Productions present the one-of-a-kind Imagine Picasso: The Immersive Exhibition occupying Hall C of Canada Place (Vancouver Convention Centre East) after getting raves on its first Canadian stop in Quebec over the summer.
Creative directors Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron have dreamed up another wondrous art retrospective in collaboration with historian Androula Michael and Rudy Ricciotti, a leading figure in the new French architecture movement.
Expectations are high for the western Canadian debut of Imagine Picasso with 216 of the Spanish artist's paintings shown together for the first time—from his Blue and Rose periods on through Cubism and his later prolific years.
The exhibition also offers an unprecedented dialogue between Ricciotti and one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. Ricciotti was inspired to create this spectacular scenography from the paper sculptures Picasso made for his children. The paintings, projected onto nine full-blown origami-style structures, give a novel perspective on the Spaniard's work.
Through the artistic approach of Image Totale, designed by Mauger and Baron, the exhibition immerses viewers into the heart of the paintings by allowing guests to explore the paintings' details and fully experience the power of his work. Imagine Picasso pays tribute to the genius and the freedom of his creations.
Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (1881–1973) embodied a mastery of modern art. Constantly reinventing himself, he revolutionized forms and aesthetics through different artistic mediums.
Spanning an impressive nearly eight-decade career, he proved to be one of the most prolific creative geniuses in history by producing some 65,000 pieces of artwork—paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and ceramics. Eminently notorious, Picasso is more than a household name as an artist who also became a famous global brand.
Update: Imagine Picasso: The Immersive Exhibition is now open to the public to visit until January 8th.
