Strathcona—Newly opened in the thick of Yeast Van's still bustling craft beer neighborhood, Container Brewing is already on its way to becoming another friendly and welcoming East Van brewery a couple weeks after its official opening.
Full of bright white container storage touches and softly wood finishes, the new brewery has a unique industrial look in its inviting 4,400-square-foot, two-level space designed by Simcic + Uhrich Architects—also responsible for the comparably constructed Brassneck, Faculty, and Strathcona breweries.
As for the beer, they've already got a varied lineup of solid beer types after more than a year of development with a decided focus on ales, IPAs, and European inspired concoctions.
After sampling a quartet of their fresh brews in both flight and "full-pour" forms, I've already developed an affinity for their interesting mix of available beers so far including:
- Cold Box (dry-hopped lager): a smooth and easily drinkable standard.
- Panamax (extra special bitter): a sharp and tasty version of a classic ESB.
- All Season" (nitro dry stout): light yet dark in its crisp flavour.
- Pour Les Mineurs Frais Grisette (fresh hop grisette): my favourite for its bold, refreshing taste.
Container is carving out its own little corner being just different enough while also definitely fitting into Vancouver's wider craft beer community.
