Gastown—Local footwear brand Native Shoes just opened their very first branded retail storefront located right on Water Street near the tail end of last year. The brick-and-mortar shop features their trademark minimalist yet sustainable aesthetic packaged in an interactive and design-driven space.
Native originated in 2009 with three classic shoe silhouettes made and constructed entirely from a single material, EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate). Since then, the shoe outfit has expanded to offer a variety of styles—my favourite remains their limited edition Juice Truck collaboration—for both kids and adults in futuristic fabrics available to consumers in thirty countries across the globe.
Known for their "Keep it Lite" and Beast Free (aka PETA-approved vegan) lightweight footwear, the brand continues to make waves for itself both locally and internationally.
The store's design inspirations draw from their west coast roots pulling in natural wood and an unmissable moss wall sourced from the forests surrounding Vancouver.
Just like their playful footwear, the location's atmosphere is uniformly bright, clean, and colourful. It's full of childlike personality while evoking a strong sense of adventure.
