Strathcona—(December 2, 2017) Denver-based husband-and-wife indie pop duo Tennis brought their trademark 1970s throwback aesthetic to The Cobalt in support of their latest EP, We Can Die Happy, and excellent fourth album, Yours Conditionally—both released earlier this year.
Opening act and Portland rock outfit Wild Ones provided a relaxing yet vibrant and energetic set. They radiated a breezy sense of cool and calm to start out the Saturday night.
Couple Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley were in peak, no-nonsense form, despite anxieties, full of their retro soft rock vibes—think acid-washed, high-wasted, no-pocket jeans, perm and mop top haircuts—with catchy, nostalgic musical riffs.
On the last date of their tour, the band had a relaxed yet confident demeanour filled with their popular warm sound and inviting songs for a fully engrossing performance the crowd lapped up delightfully.
With the small, intimate setting of mostly polite, hardcore fans of the smooth listening pop tones, it was easily one of the more enjoyable pure musical performances of recent memory even with the occasional sound issues.
♫ I get hysterical
