Cambie—(February 1, 2017) Strathcona sweets and cream puff makers Beta5 Chocolates have opened a pop-up shop for Valentine's Day alongside unveiling their new seasonal chocolate collection. To make the affair special, the temporary shop features interesting touches like a striking mural from local artist Scott Sueme, a display from Woodreform, as well as chocolate bar collaborations from The Juice Truck and Matchstick Coffee Roasters.
To celebrate, Beta5 threw one of their "ice cream socials" featuring a special raspberry sorbet and earl grey ice cream sundae (with raspberry compote, vanilla chantilly, and a jasmine macaron). The sweet and delicious treat was a welcome fruity version of their trademark, layered sundae fare.
As for cream puffs, the specialty was their strawberry jasmine cream puff (with strawberry mousse, mascarpone cremeux, floral jasmine chantilly, and topped with a jasmine macaron). It was a delectably decadent and a fitting romantic dessert. Other signature cream puff favourites including vanilla, salted caramel, quince très leches and raspberry earl grey are also available.
Their Valentine's Day chocolate collection also includes eight interesting concoctions:
- Sriracha and sesame: soft caramel flavoured with Sriracha, paired with rich sesame praline, and studded with caramelized sesame seeds.
- Red velvet: earthy beet caramel paired with a creamy white chocolate ganache and infused with roasted cocoa nibs.
- Queen of Hearts polygon bar: white chocolate, freeze-dried raspberries, and candied earl grey tea.
- Heart of Gold candy bar: 66% dark chocolate shell filled with raspberry jelly, tonka bean ganache, crunchy almond-hazelnut praline, and dusted with gold.
Beta5's pop-up runs now until Valentine's Day located on Cambie and 17th Avenue.
