Fairview Slopes—The still relatively new Porto Café in Cambie Village has been experimenting with an expanded food service and drink program. For example, I was taken with their deconstructed espresso macchiato (made of a shot of espresso, crema, and soda water) for an interesting and refreshing take on getting caffeinated.
Coffee expert Nick from Calgary's Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters provided a special cupping demonstration to educate us on how to enjoy and spot the differences in coffee blends.
Porto's style and decor is fairly on point with wood boards, clean, mostly white finishes, and cute touches including bear-themed latte art.
Porto uses coffee beans from both P&S and local roasters, Pallet Coffee Roasters.
A visit to Porto is usually not complete without at least a bite of the substantial Earl Grey cake from Cadeaux Bakery for its light but tart taste.
As alluded to, Porto now offers cupping demonstrations, wine tastings, and other expanded programs at the cafe in addition to full range of breakfast items, sandwiches, smoothies, non-caffeinated beverages, and wines.
