Financial District—(January 27, 2016) Celebrating all things cognac and Rémy Martin, invited guests were treated to an intimate Bon Vivant dinner pairing and luxury tasting at Hy's Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar in their upstairs dining room last week.
Inspired by the heritage of the Rémy Martin portfolio, we tasted their fine brandy selection from the wine-growing region surrounding the eponymous French town.
To start, the steak tartare was superb and flavourful as paired with a (very well-made) classic Rémy Martin VSOP old fashioned cocktail.
To no surprise, the entrée of Canadian prime rib petit filet mignon (with pan-seared foie gras and wild mushroom sauce) was perfectly cooked and seasoned paired with a stiff Rémy Martin XO neat (Rémy Martin 1738 Hy's car cocktail also pictured).
The evening was capped off with a special presentation and tasting of the coveted, hundred-year-old aged Louis XIII cognac paired with a deliciously and sizzling, tableside flambéed banana foster (with toasted macadamia nuts and vanilla ice cream) for dessert. It was most definitely a luxurious and decadently enjoyable dinner pairing fine brandy with classic steakhouse fare.
