Hastings–Sunrise—(July 25, 2015) The seventh annual Deighton Cup, always anchored by Saturday afternoon's Thoroughbred: A Day at the Races gala event, happened at Hastings Racecourse over the weekend. As the midpoint of summer usually marks a fanciful visit to the racetrack, well-dressed patrons came to watch the ponies in style for a formal day of chic sophistication at the races.
Every year, Deighton Cup playfully brings together traditions of combining high fashion (think big hats and fascinators) and live jazz together with vices like cocktails, booze, cigars, and of course, horse racing.
Organizers The Social Concierge, the folks behind some of the city's most notable events (Dîner en Blanc, Dinner by Design, TEDxVancouver), along with DroskiTurner are always aiming to make Deighton "the most fashionable event of the summer".
This year's event did not disappoint with guests looking aces and dressed impeccably to the nines.
My lovely cousin Angelica and I posing by the grassy knoll lounge.
You can't see it here, but these two are standing on giant stilts. That makes it all the more impressive.
Place your bets.
Lucky number 7.
