Riley Park–Little Mountain—On the corner of 21st and Main Street, Liberty Bakery & Cafe is a charming, quaint, little eatery full character, serious baking, and a variety of treats.
More than a bakery and cafe, Liberty also offers a small but tempting selection of homemade style sandwiches and daily soups.
I was fairly impressed with their well-brewed, no-nonsense Americano (made with Elysian Coffee beans) and its starkly refreshing nature full of stirring espresso goodness, enjoyed both hot and iced.
The pulla, a Scandinavian sweet roll (think fancy cinnamon roll), was delightfully sweet tasting and simply great all-around as a nice, tightly swirled treat.
Their trademark gingerbread cookie in the style of Hayao Miyazaki's beloved titular cartoon character from My Neighbor Totoro is almost too cute to eat, almost. Their heartily baked version of the basic chocolate chip cookie was also quite scrumptious.
The corner bakery has all the winning elements of a casual, neighbourhood cafe with good food, baked goods, and coffee.
