Hawkers Market at The Independent at Main building on Kingsway in Mount Pleasant on February 28, 2015.
Hawkers Gonna Hawk. Hawkers Market, the growing local, independent food market, keeps evolving, adding more elements and vendors to its quarterly Saturday night lineup. A healthy crowd packed the empty 188 Kingsway building (a Rize Alliance development property) early and often with a long line for standby tickets after selling out earlier in the day with a steady stream of attendees refilling the event well into the night.
Juno himself of Juno Kim Catering and Merchant's Oyster Bar was hard at work preparing his crispy chicken parfait dish (served on crispy chicken skin with cider gastrique gel and thyme crème fraîche).
A packed house mixing local food makers and culture together.
An eclectic art display and installation from Hot Art Wet City.
Juno's pulled pork taco (with celery root wrap, cilantro apple slaw, and kelp stout BBQ sauce) and crispy pork belly (on a wakame ramen cracker with soy and shochu emulsion, pickled shiitakes, and shiitake dust).
33 Acres, as always, served few of their beverages including their new 33 Acres of Cid3r, a deliciously fruity, mild yet deeply satisfying, hazy blonde cider.
Merchant's chilled mussels (with fennel vinaigrette, fried brioche, winter herbs, and prosciutto oil).
Busy hawking beers.
Creative types and artists meeting at the nexus of Kingsway and Main Street in the continually burgeoning Mount Pleasant.
Chef Beer Belly (aka Alex Newton of Big Rock Urban) at the back of the room with their food assembly line serving harissa and porcini raviolino (fresh made pasta with brown butter vinaigrette and pecorino) and Local Omnivore dates (locally made bacon stuffed with almonds and a pakale glaze).
David George Gordon, Seattle's "The Bug Chef", on hand with his insect delicacies including cricket kebabs.
Makers gonna make.
