10th annual Taste of Yaletown lunch tasting at Glowbal Grill Steak & Satays from The Glowbal Collection in Yaletown on October 2, 2014.
Taste of Yaletown, the downtown neighbourhood BIA's set menu restaurant program, is returning and media were toured around for a sneak peek of the different dining options available. I previewed the tasty offerings from the Glowbal Collection's titular eatery, Glowbal Grill (and also, Simply Thai Restaurant).
The starter choices of cream of asparagus and pea soup and boar bacon and chickpea salad were satisfyingly standard appetizers for starting off your meal. For entrées, the braised lamb shank (with shaved carrots, sautéed cabbage, and rosemary jus) was delightful in its soft, moist taste and texture. It was pleasing all around in its juices and marinated sauciness.
I found the ginger-soy marinated tuna skewer (with albacore and ahi tuna, edamame, braised fennel, mango and citrus salsa) intriguing and very pleasant tasting with its mishmash of competing flavours (for the better).
It was hard not to enjoy the dessert highlights from Glowbal. The upside-down pear and ginger cake (in whiskey sauce) was crisp and tasty in its mannered sweetness, but it was the no bake banana and coconut cheesecake from Society that took the cake with its pleasingly delicious, light creaminess.
It was a fairly enjoyable and satisfying meal offering from Glowbal's set menus. I'd go with the salad and lamb as my choices. TOY goes from October 16 to 30th. Check out the menus here.
