Brunch tasting at Upstairs at Campagnolo on Main Street in Strathcona on September 6, 2014.
I'm a fan of Campagnolo's Italian group of restaurants including the flagship Main Street eatery, Roma, and the Upstairs bar. Starting this Saturday, you can enjoy brunch service at Camp's appropriately named, hip upstairs bar.
On this preview tasting, we went sharesies, splitting a couple of delightful sounding brunch and comfort food staples.
I'm a sucker for a good eggs benny and the smoked wild BC salmon eggs Benedict (with buttermilk biscuits, Béarnaise sauce, and hash browns) piqued my interest. It was deliciously fine and solid in its good balance of a well-cooked pouched egg, creamy sauciness, and tastiness of the fish.
I'm always curious about any restaurant's version of fried chicken (served with biscuits, a fried egg, and hash browns).
From the messy aftermath, the chicken was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. It was a delicious, tasty treat served on a decent biscuit with syrup.
I was pleasantly surprised by Upstairs' initial brunch dishes and offerings with a healthy variety and good start complementing Campagnolo's downstairs Italian flair.
Also, the fresh pastries (particularly the sticky bun) are not a bad way to start your meal. Bon appétit!
