Portland Trip: Lunch at ¿Por Qué No? Taqueria in the Hawthorne District on June 26, 2014.
It's becoming a tradition to make Por Qué No our first stop on our way into the city of roses for some delicious tacos and margaritas.
The converted garage makes for a nice Mexican eatery with bright colours and decorations.
This time around I ordered the calamari taco (with spicy wild squid sautéed with peppers, topped with crema, spicy salsa, de arbol, and pico de gallo) and the barbacoa (with beef brisket, braised inside banana leaves in a three chile barbacoa salsa, topped with pickled red onions and cilantro).
Both tacos are disgustingly good and full of meaty flavours with a nice mix of sauces, toppings, and delightful ingredients. The chorizo and pescado are aces as well.
We drank some refreshing pomegranate margaritas and white wine sangrias while waiting in line at the self-serve establishment.
I always come for the tacos and stay for the ambience.
