Lunch at Minami Restaurant in Yaletown on September 28, 2012.
Sophia and I finally had reconnected over lunch at Yaletown's newest upscale Japanese eatery after their grand opening party. The sister restaurant to Miku, Minami took over the space made famous by Goldfish.
First off, the kaisen soba pepperoncino noodles (very top) with shrimp, squid, scallop, sweet pepper, shiitake, and jalapeño was delightfully delectable. I loved the noodles mixed with seafood and the peppers and garnish. The spicy pork gyozas with pork belly bits were also nice and tasty.
I always enjoy their freshly made rolls including the signature aburi salmon oshi roll (with local salmon, and jalapéno). I wasn't as enthused about the Pacific roll (with albacore tuna, jalapéno, wrapped in shiso and yellowtail), but it was still satisfying despite a fairly moist, gooey taste.
For dessert, we split a delicious strawberry rhubarb charlotte (with strawberry mousse, almond chocolate chip sponge, rhubarb & strawberry compote, crème brûlée, rhubarb spread, and raspberry sorbet). It was quite good, fruity, and a great way to end the meal.
I still think Miku and now Minami are the standard for upscale sushi and Japanese food. This lunch only went on to reaffirm my love for their high quality food preparation and attention to detail.
