Mooncake and afternoon tea service at The Urban Tea Merchant on September 8, 2012.
I returned to The Urban Tea Merchant over the weekend, being invited to try their latest concoctions and trademark TWG Tea just in time for mooncake season and the Mid-Autumn Festival. The tea shop was decorated in traditional decor as Janice and I gathered by the cafe into the back tea salon.
I really enjoyed the trio of teas we had, keeping with the blends used in the moon inspired goods. The silver moon tea was the best and the 1837 black tea was very smooth and refreshing as well. The Singapore breakfast was intriguing and offbeat.
In honour of Fashion's Night Out, TUTM offered a special haute couture tea service filled with tasty, fashionable treats.
It had tiers filled with tea seared ahi, a pumpkin bowl, scallops, quail eggs, wild mushroom endive, scone, black tea cookie, and chocolate dipped madeleine. Everything was delectable, particularly the scone with jam as well as the sweeter treats.
Our moon festival tea service came with miso-maple glazed sablefish, chicken salad cone, smoked salmon ribbon, and pork dumplings in a dim sum container. The sablefish was quite good as was the salmon. The dumplings were decent as the whole thing had a great presentation.
The special TWG Tea infused mooncakes come in a variety of flavours. We had the moonlight one with a red crust filled with white lotus paste, infused with silver moon tea. I enjoyed it and its basic makeup, very good. They are also available in pre-packaged gift boxes.
I enjoyed the twists on traditional tea fare from all different cultures with TUTM venturing into eastern conventions. Everything seemed to have some sort of tea infusion to it with a fine attention to detail and a plethora of high quality ingredients.
