Winnipeg Wedding Weekend in friendly Manitoba on August 4, 2012.
Over the weekend, I made the trip to Winnipeg (where my family originally hails from, by way of Vietnam).
The affair is what I can only describe as the most elaborate, beautiful shotgun (sort of) backyard wedding I've ever witnessed.
My (younger) cousin and soon to be doctor Victoria wed Paul in a breathtaking (but very chilly) sunset ceremony preceded by some pretty ridiculous celebrations.
I was joined by a whole flock of paternal family including my beloved cousins (like Amanda above), my adorable second cousin, baby Jacob (my arm around his father and my drinking buddy David up above), along with some two-hundred plus guests, gathered in an outdoor tent.
Seriously, this was all done in a single (massive) backyard on a few months notice. Despite warnings about the celestially humid, mosquito ridden summer, a rainstorm hit the night before only to subside the morning of the big day.
A melding of cultural traditions, a traditional eastern tea ceremony was held to counsel and prepare the newlyweds before the reception and ceremony at dusk.
This was my first visit to the 'Peg in twenty-five years. It was a remarkable series of events and ceremonies.
Keeping creative, a dozen sky lanterns were lit and raised into the night sky to commemorate the new matrimonial bonds.
The night was capped off with a roaring bonfire, s'mores (which apparently is short for "some more"), and sending off the happy couple with sparklers.
Congratulations to the happy couple and all on a beautiful weekend of marriage, families, and festivities.
