I was sent and asked to try a sampler box of goodies from Fine Choice Foods (based locally out of Richmond) full of frozen Asian fusion Sum-m products. Fine Choice is a twenty-five year old family-run business (started from a kitchen on Cambie Street).
I thought the modern packaging stood out, representing the company's idea of a healthy approach to cooking along with their values of a green, community-oriented, and progressive approach to life.
First off, I found the crispy pork wontons after being deep fried lacking in flavour and a tad bland. I was slightly disappointed, but they were still okay for munching on as a snack.
I thought the crispy spring rolls were more than decent for being from frozen. As a carnivore, my choice was the pork version. However, I also enjoyed vegetable rolls too.
My pick, however, would easily be the (pan fried) gyōza dumplings. I liked the chicken ones particularly with the vegetable option also good as well. I could totally see eating these when my hunger pangs strikes. They were a solid, easy to make anytime snack.
FCF prides themselves on their strictly fresh local produce and meats with no MSG, trans fats, or artificial ingredients. You can tell as everything tasted pretty clean and relatively fresh after being cooked. Sum-m is available at your local grocery store.
