Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar's grand opening party in Kitsilano on December 14, 2011.
I've discovered a new love for oysters thanks to joints like Rodney's and Goldfish downtown.
I was delighted to try out the brand new oyster bar in the heart of Kitsilano. Needless to say, the oysters and seafood were top notch.
I fell in love with the southern fried chicken (marinated in buttermilk for two days with cajun honey and butter). The tender chicken breast melted in my mouth. Everything was tasty from the raw and pan fried oysters to soft shell crab, crab cakes, and other concoctions. I dug the Southern American style and theme.
Racing to open and establish their menu, I was impressed with the well stocked kitchen throughout the night having only soft-launched a week ago.
I go to a lot of events, restaurant openings, tastings, and I was thoroughly impressed with Chewies. The food was good, staff were friendly and nice as the night wore on.
(Left: Kristie Yung, owner Richard Chew, and Queenie Cao.) Our little table by the bar demolished the dishes as they came out including some tasty desserts. The cayenne chocolate cake had a spiced kick to eat and the french quarter beignets were hot and delicious.
I have few complaints as everything was delicious. I ate so much, leaving and returning to mix and mingle with the local foodies. One thing, the Caesars weren't very good.
I hung out with friends like (left to right) Colene, Maurice Li, Cyndi Hunter, and Nick Routley above, among many others.
I had a great time stuffing my face, eating oysters, fried chicken, seafood, and so much more. I cannot wait to return.
