Tanya Slingsby's "Shoru: Vindication and Victory" solo art exhibition at Gaspointe Gallery in Gastown on August 15, 2011.
I checked out the special media preview for artist Tanya Slingsby's latest work in paint, photography, and creative visuals.
The preview also served as the launch for the new Gastown basement art gallery, Gaspointe, formerly some sort of Japanese t-shirt company HQ.
I found Slingsby's work eclectic and colourfully vibrant. She explored the limits of her visuals with large canvases and textured abstractions.
I showed a bit my ignorance when the artist herself introduced herself to me. Art can (and probably should be) daunting.
It's hard to keep up with Vancouver's burgeoning art world. She's reloaded her art after giving birth and focusing on family.
Despite my lack of contemporary art knowledge, I really dug Slingsby's work as well as the kitschy new gallery and its small but quaint space underground.
The canvas pieces showcased well. Observing her unique piece was an interesting look into another vessel of the art community.
