Secret Yelp Dinner Elite Event at Kitsilano Daily Kitchen in Kitsilano on August 27, 2011.
Yelp Vancouver Community Manager Robin McMillan made sure I was at the super secret Elite dinner party in Kits last weekend. I managed to race there from Revel Room in Gastown.
This Elite event was unlike any other. Instead of standing up to mingle, eat, and drink, we were seated in a relatively fancy pants dining party.
We didn't start eating until 11pm or so, but when it got rolling, it was a pretty ridiculous and insanely good meal.
At Daily Kitchen, Chef Brian Fowke and his team whipped a delicious six course dinner from ingredients Yelp-ers collected themselves all around the city earlier in the day.
Each course was paired with a special wine for maximum satisfaction.
Sufficed to say, there was a lot of wine, drinking a glass to keep up with each course.
Robin's focus was on a fresh, local experience with only the best ingredients done in a hyper rushed but scrumptious fashion. The Miyagi and Golden Mantle oysters were insanely good.
I don't even like oysters and I thought they were splendid. The freshly served and lightly seared salmon was so tasty and flavourful.
The Daily Kitchen's thing is no set menu and new, fresh dishes every day sans refrigerator in the kitchen. The Salt Spring Island goat's cheese and mushroom risotto were also very fine.
The meal was rounded out by the Big Creek Valley beef inside round with mash potatoes and fresh B.C. blueberries for dessert.
The entire menu was devine as Robin and Chef Fowke outdid themselves organizing and cooking the delightfully edible meal. It was fun and I like the random changes of pace in dining and socializing especially from the last Mexican adventure. I can't wait for what's next in store.
