#604insomnia All You Can Eat hot pot at tweetup Claypot Restaurant in Richmond on August 4, 2011.
I joined a few insomniac tweeps, Jesse Cheng, Vanessa Tam, Queenie Cao, Lloyd Go, Justin Lam, and the very late Vivian Lau, for some Chinese hot pot in Richmond.
If you're not familiar with the #604insomnia hashtag and crew, they're a bunch of Twitter folks who usually stay up late randomly talking and communicating over Twitter.
The admittedly mostly Asian group of folks randomly decided for all these people to meetup over late night snacks every now and then.
Jesse, the unofficial insomnia leader, even got me a belated birthday present, a bracelet and cuff links.
How sweet.
Last time we went for nachos and beer in East Van. This time around, we got out at a normal dining hour for some AYCE dinner.
This was a more casual week in social editing. And because I felt it was far too self-indulgent (even for me!) to talk about my birthday bash, I thought this fit nicely.
This casual dining tweetup proved a good fit for this week's Vancouver Daze and a nice change of pace.
Growing up in Ladner, I didn't discover all the random Chinese hangout adventures that are staple of Asian culture until going to UBC.
The food itself was delicious. The assortment of meat, veggies, and seafood was filling and served for some good, fun conversation.
We sat in the so-called "VIP" dining room which was basically the end of the restaurant with closing doors and our own television playing Chinese news.
I know I write about and go to a lot of industry events, but I always want to make sure I keep going to more casual, inclusive, intimate meetups with other young professionals and students. Nothing beats a relaxed meals and meeting new people.
