34th annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival day 2 in the rain with Joel Plaskett, Elliott BROOD, and The Fugitives at Jericho Beach Park on July 16, 2011.
I braved the torrential downpour to head down to the folk festival to hear some great music on the muddy beach.
I was surprised by the healthy turnout in the dreadful weather.
I managed to catch one of the brief windows in the afternoon sans rain.
I'd never been to the fest before and went thanks to V.I.A.'s media sponsorship of the festivities.
I wandered around from the many stages soaking in the vibrant music and eclectic sounds despite the extreme wetness.
It was a super diverse crowd with many families and fans young and old.
I really dug the mixture of people and music.
Thankfully, I got to catch the musical workshop of Joel Plaskett, Elliott BROOD, and The Fugitives on stage 4.
Also, I managed to stay relatively dry.
I was hooked by Plaskett's first song, "True Patriot Love".
The three switched back and forth between each other, playing enjoyable low-key sets. I must admit, it was pretty wicked.
Despite the terrible weather, everyone was having a good time and enjoying the music.
I didn't stay long, but I had a really good time at my very first folk festival.
