In-N-Out Burger on Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas on June 7, 2011.
Finally after years, I tried my very first In-N-Out Burger and, sufficed to say, it lived up to expectations. On my trip to Vegas land, my buddies and I walked down the South Las Vegas Blvd freeway to Dean Martin Drive to the In-N-Out just off the strip. It was a twenty minute walk from my hotel but we were determined.
I've been familiar with the franchise and its back-to-basics business philosophy and menu documented in a non-fiction book. They pride themselves on their fresh ingredients, so much so there is no location more than a day's drive from their meat distribution centre which means no frozen products.
The franchise also practices customer and employee programs in addition to hidden, bible verse references to unobtrusively spread the Christian beliefs of the family business.
I ordered a cheeseburger with onions, fries "animal style" (with grilled onions and special sauce off the secret menu), and a chocolate milkshake. I cost me $8 even.
I didn't think the meal was spectacular but I think that's the point. I did, however, really enjoy my burger and fries made fresh to order with top notch ingredients. It was a perfect meal snack on the go. I really loved the retro decor, simplicity, and business pride on display.
In-N-Out was a solid experience and worth the special effort. I can see why they hold a high reputation in the States and I look forward to returning whenever I can.
