Lunch at Kaplan's Star Deli on Oak Street on April 20, 2011.
A bunch of us randomly decided to meetup for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. After a conversation about deli sandwiches, we ended up at Kaplan's. The place feels like an old timey Jewish deli.
Colene's fervent recommendation was the potato latkes along with the grilled sandwiches.
Their selection of meaty sandwiches is glorious. I had a "not so hungry" size (which is plenty) Montreal smoked meat sandwich (very top).
It was meaty and hit the spot with some spicy mustard and dijon.
They had an assortment of takes on the Reuben sandwich with corned beef, pastrami, or turkey (the Rachel) along with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. They all seemed quite meaty and tasty.
There's a cured or smoke meet for any taste. The selections are mammoth and the meats are fresh and tasty with a premium cut.
Kaplan's is a solid pick for sandwiches and lunchtime dining.
It has the charm of a classic diner. However, this place is strictly for carnivores.
