Guess Party from fashion bloggers Style Struck, A Haute Mess, The Anthology, and Alicia Fashionista on Robson Street on April 6, 2011.
For a straight man, I read an inordinate amount of fashion blogs. That's mostly because there are so many great fashion blogs from out of Vancouver. I enjoy all the colourful photos and personalities that come along with them.
I'll be honest, apart from the cool-sounding premise of a fashion party at Guess on Robson, I mostly went to finally meet fashion blogger extraordinaire, Alicia "Fashionista" Quan (above, centre). As well, I came to see the always lovely Kesley Dundon from The Anthology (left). By the way, you should definitely check out Kelsey's profile in Vancouver Is Awesome's fashion feature, The Inseam.
Above, looking stylish, are Alicia, CKNW producer Jessica Hyatt, "Miss" Melissa Knight, Cicy Chan, and Tiffany Pandu-Oesman among a whole host of other very fashionable people. I joked with Kelsey that there was added pressure to look good when you're a fashion writer throwing a fashion event.
I interact online quite a bit with three Vancouver fashion bloggers in particular: Nicole Soon from Le Mode du Jour, Lisa Wong from Solo Lisa, and Alicia. I call them the "Vancouver fashion trifecta".
Not really, but maybe I should start. I see Nicole and Lisa all the time out and about at events. Anyhoo, Alicia and I finally met briefly and it was spectacular. I adored her trademark bow.
Like I said, despite chatting on Twitter a lot, I had yet to meet Alicia even though we have mutual acquaintances. She's best friends and maid of honour to the soon-to-be wed Jessica, a BCIT Broadcast Journalism colleague of mine.
Back to the event, it was a fun night of fashion, food, and cocktails. They were serving tasty mojitos.
The finger foods were nicely miniture in size and portion for easy eating while mingling and shopping.
The event was in support of FITE (Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship), a nonprofit organization supporting women in the developing world. A $5 donation got you 20% off your purchase. I did find it a little awkward shopping with so much going on, but that comes with the territory.
Alicia said she was floored my the positive response for the night. We joked that she was a local internet celebrity and should have expected it. She remarked that it was in fact her first tweetup. Never mind, it being her first in organizing one.
It's quite a different experience going to one of these meetups when everyone is there to see you.
It was a cool night with some fabulously fashionable ladies putting on a casual yet inviting event.
I was impressed with how classy it was. I look forward to what else the city's fashion(ista) community has in store.

It’s very good post! Congratulations! I really enjoyed to
reading this post! Really fashion can often be a solitary experience and your
all photos are very amazing. Outfits are perfect, much creativity, and
wonderful photography

This event and see what I saw really inspired me in making quilts. I really admire the amount of work you have put into your artwork and the techniques are fabulous.

You take some pretty amazing photos! :) It's soo cool to see other bloggers from Vancouver. I just want to take a ferry and say hello to the Mainland again.
hahaha Wizerds.
It was too bad I couldn't go. But just from reading your post, I feel like I was there right with you hobnobbing with Kelsey, Alicia, Oliva and Niki, sampling the hors d'oeuvres and checking out Guess's merchandise. Very thorough recap and great photos.
P.S. I always enjoy our online and IRL interactions!
Great post, Rick! Thanks for the mention and link, despite my absence. I'm also honored to be part of this "Vancouver fashion trifecta" that you mentioned haha, it makes us sound so official. Good seeing you earlier at the Regency Lexus event. I wish I had known it was BYOB because that "large thimble" didn't quite cut it for me.
It was so great to see you, Rick! Thanks a million.
