Popcorn Launch party and tweetup at The Refinery on Granville Street on February 23, 2011.
A few notables from Vancouver's social media community joined together to launch a new business venture, kickstarting their new restaurant/hospitality focused social media and promotions endeavour called "Popcorn". They decided, fittingly enough, to celebrate with a party and tweetup.
Keeping with the popcorn motif, they had their own popcorn maker on scene. According to the trio, Popcorn represents a social snack and coming together of ideas for socializing and business.
The principals behind Popcorn are my pals, hospitality coordinator (Vancity) organized by Amy Elderkin (left), marketing strategist Dennis Pang from Motive8 Media (middle), and graphic designer Nick Routley (aka Phanyxx, right) teaming up.
The night was abuzz with a feeling of new beginnings. The small bar made for a nice, intimate place to mingle. It was just fun to hangout like Nicolb and Justin did (above).
There were no long and awkward presentations, pitches, or selling. The three kept the formalities wisely to a minimum.
If their launch was any indication, I'm sure these three will whip up some fun events across the food and dining hub that is our fair city.
There's not much else to say. As far as casual networking mixers go, I think the event was a cool success.
All the regulars of the social scene were there mingling about talking shop. It was fun. They kept it simple.
It's always a pleasure to see the familiar faces of the social media savvy community in Vancouver and meet new ones.
As intended, there wasn't too much substance to the night, keeping the affair light and breezy. It was a night to celebrate new ventures with making friends and connections. I look forward to more.
