Dinner at the Keg Steakhouse in Richmond on October 2, 2010.
I have always had a soft spot for the Keg. I like their vibe and steakhouse style basic food. I always leave full and usually satisfied. Back at my HSBC days, I would regularly go down the street and head to the Thurlow location downtown for lunch.
I love prime rib. I hate how there are three sizes to choose from: small, regular, and "Keg" sized. Each portion is only a few dollars more than the next. My dining parter Angela said she wanted some prime rib too so I decided to order the largest Keg size. And boy, was it ever large. It was down right massive. It sure was tasty though and I finished the whole thing (sans one eight of it that I gave to Angela) pretty quickly. I ordered it medium and pink throughout. I liked the basic but hearty mashed potatoes and onion strings. It was a solid meal all around.
Angela went vegetarian style and had the spinach salad and trio sampler of steamed asparagus, sautéed mushrooms, and sweet potato fries. It all looked large portioned and filling. She had no complaints except for being full throughout the night well after heading to Guilt and Company for some Giant Jenga.
Like I said, I like the Keg. It's nothing all that fancy but sure is comfortable. You know what you are getting and it is good placy for meaty dishes. The chain has created a good dining and lounge vibe with a consistant product and service. I am a fan of their prime rib.
