Yelp Prohibition Pretend Elite Event at the Vancouver Police Museum sponsored by Michi Sushi, UV Vodka, Bear Flag Wines, and The Irish Heather on July 22, 2010.
Boy, this CBC social media internship of mine sure does have its perks.
I was invited to a rather exclusive, "elite" party thrown by our local Yelp chapter at the Vancouver Police Museum celebrating vices in their various forms.
The prohibition pretend theme was pretty clever and some of the 1930s era costumes, particularly by some very fine ladies was pretty stellar.
The Police Museum is a really great, interesting place and I definitely recommend checking it out, especially their "Sins of the City" tour of Vancouver, outlining some notourious venues in Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside.
A big thanks goes out to Yelp Vancouver community manager Crystal Henrickson and Chris Mathieson, the social media savvy director of the museum.
The Chinese gambling game of Fan-Tan was rather interesting as it got increasingly complicated with its betting strategies.
There was sex, drugs, gambling and booze of the sort. Speaking of the booze, the UK Vodka drinks were great. Talk about generous portions. All three of my drinks, lemonade, cherry, and blue raspberry were probably equal parts soda and vodka.
The free food was pretty awesome too. Michi Sushi's spicy scallop rolls were delicious in their hand-held wrap forms. I enjoyed the tiny fish-shaped individual containers of soy sauce. The vegetarian spring rolls were also delicious in addition to the duck and pork bread slices.
All in all, it was a very entertaining, enjoyable night of fun. I really hope I get to go to more Yelp Vancouver events as they are very well organized and some great fun.
Also, the paper fans were a nice touch in the surprisingly stuffy museum.
