Metric with Phantogram live in concert at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park on June 12, 2010.
Last night's performance by Metric in the park was a delightful, energetic night. Malkin Bowl is a really great outdoor concert venue with a nice view of the performance stage from anywhere in the closed off area. And the weather was perfect with the heat dying down by the time the show started.
I have not been to a concert that started and wrapped up so early in a while. Opening act, New York duo Phantogram, started things off at 7ish with Metric following an hour or so later.
I think the early start time hurt the overall ambiance and atmosphere with it taking a little while for the very diverse, sold out crowd of literally all ages to get into the music.
Metric started off a little more restrained but when they got around to really vibrant hits, from their latest release Fantasies like "Help, I'm Alive", "Gimme Sympathy", and "Stadium Love", everyone really got into it.
Lead singer Emily Haines was engaging and talked up the crowd but I found some of her banter a little awkward and a tad nonsensical.
However, she does have a pair of very lovely, long legs she uses to strut around on stage with her crazy dance moves.
The whole show wrapped up well before 10 o' clock but they put in full set including an acoustic encore with an enjoyable, stripped down rendition of "Combat Baby".
Metric play another sold-out show tonight.

I always think "great legs!" when the topic of Emily Haines comes up. Nice of you to mention it, too.
