SPOTLIGHT | The Douglas Hotel x Opening x Parq Vancouver

False Creek—(November 30, 2017) The Douglas Hotel, a part of the Autograph Collection Hotels, located inside the Parq Vancouver Casino Resort complex was unveiled last week as the modernist hotel of nature and city threw a lavish grand opening party dubbed a "Living Room Social".



The unveiling, referred to as such because of the Douglas' trio of penthouse loft suites—known as Apartment 108 (a modernist enclave), The Den (a youthful homage to the past), and The Loft (eclectic yet sleek in its contemporary edge)—on the sixteenth and seventeenth floors, showcased Autograph's brand of appealing luxury "living" spaces with spacious caverns dedicated to rest and relaxation spread over the two floors each.



Downstairs, the D/6 Bar & Lounge gave off a pretty classic hotel bar feel with its sprawling, old school decor, dark interior, and plenty of jazzy vibes.

Apartment 108

The Douglas, inspired by the original Douglas fir trees that laid the foundation for Vancouver's thriving economy, joins the diverse portfolio of more than a hundred Autograph Collection Hotels around the world—all independent, supposedly one-of-a-kind hotels that aim for high values of vision, craft, and design.

The hotel looks to be a carefully curated space that invites locals and visitors to reflect and indulge in its curated amenities promoting inner growth of mind and body. The timeless retreat crafts a welcoming environment that combines themes of raw yet urban sophistication—a purposeful design that balances dialogue between nature and city.



The luxurious penthouse suites featured some eclectic contemporary art including this popular "Rock On"  sign from Endeavour Neon (below).

That's me under said neon sign posing alongside baker turned The Measure of My Powers: A Memoir of Food, Misery, and Paris author (and my best enemy) Jackie Kai Ellis. FYI, I managed to steal and read an advanced copy of her book (out on March 6, 2018). It's an emotionally raw and sometimes heartbreaking but always inspiring read. The memoir is impeccably written and well, empowering.

The Loft

As for the hotel, what's impressive is the amount of luxury and detail there is within the tall hotel complex and its use of space for such a tight corridor in the Stadium District between the sports arenas.



The Douglas, as well as the Parq Vancouver hotel complex with sister hotel JW Marriott in general, is already an intriguing locale with its 178 rooms and ten suites all decorated with warm woods and romantic lighting.
