Olympic Village—(September 6, 2015) Over Labour Day weekend, I was invited by local tech startup Latergramme (the app that lets you schedule your Instagram posts) to speak at their Latergrammers Meetup with fellow Instagram'ers at the last Food Cart Fest of the summer.
I extolled the virtues of mobile food photography with tidbits about "scrolling, swiping, and liking" with colleagues Natasha Neale from ION Magazine/Little Mountain Shop and Candy Complex blogger Stephanie Wan both seen here squat double fisting Aussie Pie Guy meat pies and Johnny's Pops(icles) for some reason.
Amidst our discussion of Instagram best practices, I chowed down on some tasty Kick-Ass Rice (with pork belly, a poached egg, and Thai chili) from Le Tigre food truck. It was a solid dish full of some dynamite Asian flavours. Tip: I try to post food pics before or after mealtimes and late at night.
Speaking of Johnny's Pops earlier, my sweet tooth usually goes for their delightfully creamy blackberry cheesecake (above) with its deliciously refreshing taste. The strawberry lemonade is another fine flavour for its comforting strawberry taste mixed with hints of lemon flavours.
At the meetup, we also discussed the aspects of posed shots and food styling to capture that perfect shot over some delicious Yolk's Breakfast sandwiches. I generally refrain from overly stylized or posed shots and shift my lens to find unconventional or offbeat angles when I can.
It was a filling afternoon of eats and snaps while discussing food photography over street food. And with that, it's a wrap on not only this year's wildly popular edition of Food Cart Fest but summer as well. See you in the fall.
