Bubbles, Beats & Brunch tasting at Market by Jean-Georges restaurant inside the Shangri-La Hotel on Alberni Street on June 21, 2014.
Market by Jean-Georges and Chef de Cuisine Montgomery Lau have launched a new brunch menu just in time for the official start of summer. You can sit on the open rooftop patio overlooking the financial district and groove to the tunes by local DJ Chelsea Joelle and saxophonist Caley Honeywell while sipping bubbles.
Before you can settle in, you're treated to a complimentary cashew sticky bun to wet your appetite. It's quite sticky and delicious with a light, sweet flavour and delectable chewiness.
Everyone recommended the spicy Korean style fried chicken (with buttermilk biscuit) and it was strangely intriguing with a nice tangy flavour and crispy skin yet moist and flavourful taste inside. It's a welcome departure from your usual fried chicken.
Grace insisted on celebrating the summer solstice with a dozen oysters and they were delightfully fresh and slippery going down. My highlight was the skillet baked eggs (with short rib hash and crispy kale). It was a nicely twisted brunch bowl as all the different flavours mixed well with each other for a tasty mishmash of culinary concoctions.
I look forward to trying more of their inventive dishes including the Pandan waffle with coconut cream. It's a welcome addition to the usual breakfast faire. The triple-B brunch service is available now on weekends.
