Market Wednesdays dinner tasting at Campagnolo Italian restaurant on Main Street in Strathcona on July 10, 2013.
Farmers market season is in full swing and as part of the Main Street Station Farmers Market, they've teamed up with Campagnolo on Main to incorporate some of the market's fresh produce in their menu every Wednesday night. To start, we sampled some deliciously cut Hawkshaw salmon and fresh veggies straight from the market down the street.
Our special pizza was very hardy featuring onions and potatoes from the market. It was interesting and tasty but so very filling.
I thoroughly enjoyed the featured tagliatelle pasta with pork ragú, basil, and pecorino Romano cheese with broccoli from the market. They also sell the very same house made dried pasta at the their stall in the market.
I found their classic margherita pizza fairly standard and the usual fare.
For dessert, we gobbled up some delectably fresh raspberries from High Point Farm on Gabriola Island. This was easily a highlight and nice capper to the meal. These particular raspberries are only edible a few weeks out of the year due to their delicate, ripe nature and being difficult to transport.
It was a privilege dining with some very accomplished female professionals including Breakfast Television's Dawn Chubai and WE Vancouver managing editor Martha Perkins (above). It was also a treat dining at Campagnolo, enjoying their use of fresh market ingredients on the menu.
