Kristie Yung with Jonathan Wu performing live for Tuesday Night Music Club at The Cellar nightclub on Granville Street on September 27, 2011.
Racing around Vancouver, I made a quick trip into the The Cellar underground club to catch a quick set by the talented Kristie Yung.
Ten local artists performed 10 or so minutes on stage each to dazzle the crowd with some new musical stylings.
I only stayed for the first couple acts, jetting after Kristie's set. She performed a few songs with guitarist Jon Wu and accompanied by her soulful voice.
On my end, I stuck with a simply black and white in camera palette and added some contrast to capture and highlight Kristie's performance.
I obviously really enjoy seeing and hearing her perform. I've heard all the songs before, but every time feels like the first.
Kristie, needless to say, is a great local singer/songwriter, all around songstress, and (full disclosure) friend.
She's a crooner with class and style. I've noticed her sharp inflection and the way she closes her eyes when she hits certain notes.
Admittedly, I'm not much for the singer/songwriter voice and guitar act, apart from my love and admiration for Bob Dylan.
Simply put, the less you have on stage, the harder it is to pull off musically.
Her best songs are the ones tempered with lyrics from the past and tales of the heart.
To really impress with just your voice and a six string, you need to be fairly talented. Well, you can see where I'm going with this...
I say, the more I hear from her, the more I affirm the talented stylings of the lovely Miss Yung.
I highly recommend catching her live or any way you can. It was certainly worth my six dollars.
