Thoroughbred: A Day at the Races 2011 gala event at Hastings Racecourse with Kristie Yung on August 6, 2011.
It was time for the annual late summer tradition of gala dress, breaking out the ascots and big hats, for this year's Thoroughbred event.
It was just another day at the races with fancy areas serving all our needs and Playboy Bunnies abound.
My friends over at The Social Concierge invited me to this fancy affair.
The women were decked out to the nines, including my lovely guest Kristie.
There were more Playboy Bunnies in tow after the infamous Playboy Club party last month.
I was sweltering in my three-piece suit so we hung out mostly in the Playboy Energy Drink lounge just outside.
The grassy knoll was furnished with bocce ball, couches, benches, and picnic blankets.
Kristie and I enjoyed the cool breeze under the trees.
We had fun being silly and relaxing, mingling about through the lavish lounges.
I enjoyed a fine cigar, my first in probably over three years.
I felt very classy but struggled to finish smoking it.
The smell in the air made the temptation irresistible, waffling from the cigar bar tent.
Peter and Angela Verge were in house with their trademark charm and enthusiasm on the fine summer day.
Kristie made our very first racing bets hoping to be lucky.
But sadly we lost. We had no idea what we were doing.
I liked the horse named "Tricksy".
It was lovely seeing friends like Mijune Pak, Cyndi Hunter, Crystal Kwon, Tania Yan, Chin Chin Ho, and others.
The food and catering was quite good. I liked the cupcakes, risotto balls, and double scallops with bacon.
It was such a fun time randomly on a Saturday afternoon watching the horsies, smoking cigars, drinking mint juleps, and spending time with lovely company in the August sun.
Despite the heat and lack of ascots from other men, I really enjoyed suiting up and feeling fancy. The affair had everything.
I did make fun of a few guys wearing t-shirts and flip flops.
I'm always up for these as I know the attention to detail and little touches the organizers paid from drinks, sponsors, and vendors to the Rolls-Royce on display.
It was another really great day hanging about at the race track, spending a lovely time with friends. It's sure proving to be a nice, yearly tradition.
