Yelp Ninjas Unite! Elite Event at Suika Snackbar and Japanese restaurant on West Broadway on April 5, 2011.
I love the monthly Elite parties Yelp throws. This ninja themed night was another winner with gingery Schramm Vodka cocktails, Asahi beer, Blue Note sake, and fine Japanese cuisine.
The service and staff were great. They all dressed as their favourite Japanese pop culture icons even the kitchen staff. One server guy had a whole Japanese schoolgirl outfit on, decked out to the nines. I sipped on the great drinks. I liked the cool mix of Japanese eats, drinks, and pop culture. 'Twas a interesting vibe.
The food was delectable and so plentiful. I am super glad I totally ignored Yelp Vancouver Community Sensei Cyndi Hunter's strict order to eat dinner beforehand. The dishes kept coming out throughout the evening.
The crowd packed the small Japanese eatery and I appreciated the clearing of space and seats against the walls for a nice opening up of the place to mingle about.
I loaded up on deep fried chicken, corn, prawns, salmon, tuna sashimi, rolls, and everything they had to offer. I was so full. The matcha crème brûlée concoctions were also stellar.
Sophia (right), the most food happy person I know, gobbled up the delicious and creamy seafood udon among other dishes we all ate up heartily. It was dee-licious. We all left very full and happy.
Yelp Canada Grandmaster of Marketing Crystal Henrickson (very right, dressed as Donatello) and a few peeps dressed up as everyone's favourite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There were some pretty ridiculous Japanese and ninja themed costumes including a token banana behind in the kitchen preparing our dessert and Minnie Mouse behind the bar.
I don't know what it's like across the world, but Vancouver Yelpers are the best. Cyndi (above) and Crystal have done such a wonderful job building a strong hospitable community here, showcasing the best in dining and entertainment our fair city has to offer. The friendly staff donated tips and proceeds to the earthquake relief.
The little touches including a Mortal Kombat SNES station setup and ninja decorations were funky and vibrant. As always, it was fantastic hanging out with lovely ladies like Adelina, Colene, Dot, Linzi, Vincci, my guest Karra Barron, and many others.
I look forward every month to each Yelp Elite party and bringing a different +1 guest to show off. I love the little touches and attention to details that make these particular social functions special. And I cannot wait see see what special project Cyndi and V.I.A. have in store with Science World in May.
