2011 Vancouver International Auto Show's preview gala at the Vancouver Convention Centre West on March 28, 2011.
This past week was Vancouver's annual auto show, which is actually still on. Usually the car nuts pack BC Place, but with renovations going on this year, the show stuffed itself in the new convention centre to what I thought was a better fit.
To kick the show off, Meyers Norris Penny, the New Car Dealers Association of BC and The Social Concierge held their preview gala for industry veterans, VIPs, and selected media before the public opening.
My friend and BCIT Broadcast Journalism colleague Peter Verge (top left) was the video host in the lovely INspiration Interiors lounge asking VIPs about their first car experiences. I met and hung out with CKNW and Corus Entertainment traffic reporter and host Chelsea Hobbis (top right) the whole night with our gin and tonics in hand.
The preview gala was full of B.C. auto industry and dealership professionals. I mingled about in the special VIP lounged decked out with interesting entertainment and gourmet food.
This was the first year there were a limited number of tickets available to the public at pretty price. The older, professional crowd of auto industry vets gave a little more of a subdued feeling to the night especially when dinner hour was over.
There was a electric theme with the above decorations and some classic car models on display. The crowd made for some interesting people watching and gazing.
The early birds got in on some great appetizers and fine finger foods.
I enjoyed some prime rib along with the nibbles and snacks.
BMO Bank of Montreal sponsored a racing track that brought out the kid in everyone. It was a fun night of people watching and walking about the showroom floor and supporting of Special Olympics BC .
The night was a pretty classy affair with an automotive twist, kicking off the convention in fine fashion. For more on the actual show that runs through Sunday, check out BCIT Broadcast Journalism reporter and car enthusiast Jonathan Horst's television news story on the annual automotive event below.
