Design Formation's 2011 Kaleidoscope: Infinite Possibilities grad show opening night from Langara College on April 8, 2011.
On our way out to the parking lot from work on Friday night, Colene and I took a detour into the college library for the Design Formation department's annual showcase put on by the graduating students.
We were both impressed by the classy organization of the whole affair.
The students' design work and portfolio showcases were all for the most part very well executed. Every guest got a spiffy tote bag as a parting gift.
Branded as a "kaleidoscope of infinite possibilities", there were definitely recurring themes in the students' work with care and detail attached to handmade items echoing boxed shapes, hard lines, and typography.
As a wannabe art snob, I enjoyed all the kitschy, handmade, printed, and pressed art and design work.
Everything about the show was very well executed.
The first year volunteers did a particularly good job of serving the patrons as they admired the second year work of the graduating design students.
The food by Sugar Mountain Catering was particularly good, especially the turkey sliders, deep fried coconut prawns, and sweet potato latkas.
I very much liked the grad show's opening night and how everything was pulled off.
The showcase is on now until Thursday at the campus library. Be sure to check it out.
