YVR Soul Food Tweetup #5 at Dae Bak Bon Ga Korean Restaurant on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano on January 22, 2011 with Colene, Vanessa Chu, Dennis Pang, May C., Beki Liang, Cicy Chan, and Tomasz Wagner.
We were overdue for another YVR Soul Food (don't ask about the name). Along with tradition of food of different cultures and trying new restaurants each time, we trekked out for some Korean barbecue.
The only real complaint of the night was the aloof service. The waiting staff were fine, but a little out of sorts. We ordered a set menu and they forgot to give us our side dishes of rice, kimchi, and assorted items. They seemed confused at the mistake, but did bring it promptly.
The food itself was really good. All the meat was fine and damn tasty.
The beef and chicken in particular were really good and well prepared.
It was a good mix of dishes and styles with the great assortment of meat in vintage Korean style.
There's just something about eating food straight from the grill that is incredibly satisfying.
It was another fun evening of good food and company. However, I think the how meeting and tweetup aspect of these dinners are waining as they become overpopulated and we become more familiar with each other as actual friends with the occasional newbie.
Nonetheless, I always have a blast.
