Yelp Word to Your Author Elite Event at The New Oxford in Yaletown on January 12, 2011.
I had an absolute blast hanging out at The New Oxford bar with my fellow Yelpers.
It was a fun night in cool, preppy, upscale bar. There was definitely a cool vibe to the night at The New Oxford.
We were packed into the bar hallway, but everyone seemed like they were having a great time among friendly faces in a hopping atmosphere.
The bar staff deserve special recognition as they were great at serving everyone their complementary drinks in a fast, friendly, efficient manner. They were great all night long even offering waiting service. The food appetizers were also stellar. My favourite were the lamb portions served on the bone.
I had a a Drift Ale which was a great full body beer. The spiked punch served was fruity and good. However, my favourite drink was the classic mojito. It was sweet, tasty and they did not skimp on the mint and rum.
My two guests had quite a bit to drink, enjoying the open bar privileges. Between them they had several mojitos, a side car, old fashioned, white wine, Drift Ale, and Guinness.
The theme of the night was literary authors and characters as well as reading culture circa jolly ol' Oxford prepsters.
I tried my best to rock a Chuck Bass look a la Gossip Girl.
There were some pretty intriguing costumes including Charles Dickens (above), a pig from Animal Farm, George S. Patton, and a few I did not place.
All my friends and I had a great time. Obviously, free food and an open bar certainly helps. Colene even found a copy of the English 12 provincial exam from 2000 that she wrote. Also, the photo booth by PixelBooth was great.
A special and heartfelt thanks to über Yelp Vancouver Community Manager extraordinaire Cyndi Hunter for an awesome time
High five to Crystal Hendrickson on her kick-ass role as Marketing Director of Yelp Canada including now overseeing Washington and Oregon.
